Bali tradition

Bali has a tradition that can last hundreds of years, even thousands of years. One is the tradition of writing on palm leaves ( Lontar ). Previously, palm leaves containing writings by ancient Balinese script or Sanskrit. Among other things, writing about religion, rituals, medicine, to architecture. 

Tradition write on Lontar timeless although other available media, from paper to digital. It took a long process before a manuscript can be used as a medium for writing words or describe stories. Writing and painting on palm leaves is a valuable work of art that is valued at up to millions of dollars.



Bali Provincial Government is trying to add a collection of papyrus which will digitalization. The addition of this lontar hunt to Netherlands, where the Dutch colonial era, many relics belonging to the kingdom in Bali are seized and taken to the Land of Windmills.

Many royal heritage in Bali which is now owned by the Dutch, in particular lontar, will be doubling or rewritten. This is so the best solution for preserving the original Bali lontar who already belong to another country. 

Although the Bali government claimed not to know how much of the original lontar Bali who currently resides in the Netherlands, a great desire to copy remains to be done. Surely it would require no small cost. Moreover, Bali towards digitizing library, and lontar is also not an exception (to be digitized)
